A week after winning the US Open, Zverev delivered two singles points for captain Michael Kohlmann. He had beaten Matej Dodig 6–4, 7–6(3) on Saturday, before Prizmic defeated Daniel Altmaier 6–4, 6–3 to bring Croatia level at the end of the opening day.
Doubles set up the clinching match
Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz began Sunday with a 7–5, 6–2 victory over Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic. That gave Germany a 2–1 advantage and Zverev the chance to finish the job, while Prizmic needed a win to keep the tie alive.

Halle also gave Zverev a chance to celebrate his US Open title at home. The German federation reported that he was honoured on court after Saturday's matches, recognising both his achievement in New York and his decision to represent his country immediately afterwards.
The Davis Cup Final 8 will take place in Bologna from November 24 to 29. Germany have qualified for a third consecutive edition and remain in pursuit of their first title since 1993. The team's place is secured, but Zverev has not yet confirmed his participation in November, according to Sportschau's post-tie reporting.
